The AILA Research Network on Language Policy is a new international research group devoted to language policy. A project of Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée and UTSA, it brings together scholars and institutions on issues such as language rights and multilingual societies. 
 

  Verónica Valdez, Ph.D., has received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.

Dr. Ellen Clark inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame.

Dr. María Fránquiz named Co-Editor of the Bilingual Reserach Journal.

Dr. Josie Mendez-Negrete publishes book, Las hijas de Juan: Daughters Betrayed (2006, Duke University Press).

Dr. Josie Mendez-Negrete named Chair of the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies.

Dr. Patricia Sanchez named Book Review Editor for the Bilingual Research Journal.

Dr. Wayne E. Wright named editor of the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education & Advancement and Book Review Editor of the International Multilingual Research Journal.

   
 

BBL student Minda M. Lopez was appointed to the American Educational Research Association's Graduate Council for the year 2006-2007. The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and, by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. This appointment is an important honor for the student and brings recognition on a national level to the college and UTSA.

 

BBL Doctoral Student Carmen Guzman-Martinez awarded the COEHD Presidential Graduate Scholarship

CLL graduate Dr. Belinda Schouten wins 4th Place in Outstanding Dissertation Competition of the National Association for Bilingual Education.

Norma Cardenas won the Frederick A. Cervantes Premio at the 2006 NACCS Conference in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
