Advising and Certification
Our office provides academic advising to students. While advising is
not mandatory it is strongly encouraged. The advisor will assist you
in creating a degree and certification plan that facilitates your timely
graduation & certification.
Those seeking certification must meet both Degree
Requirements and Certification
Requirements. The Certification Requirements are developed by the State
Board for Educators Certification(SBEC). With planning and advisement,
both can be satisfied simultaneously.
COEHD Scholarships
Our college offer a variety of scholarships in different fields of study. The
scholarships listed here are only geared for COEHD students. If you are interested
in other scholarships please visit the Scholarship
Office.
ExCET Information
Texas law requires every person seeking educator certification to perform satisfactorily
on comprehensive examinations. These examinations ensure that each educator
has the necessary content and professional knowledge to perform satisfactorily
in Texas public schools. The Examination for the Certification of Educators
in Texas (ExCET) program was developed for this purpose.
Student Teaching
Student teaching is an extremely important component of the certification program.
The primary purpose of student teaching is to apply what has been learned
in university courses to an actual classroom. It is assumed the student teaching
component of the certification program will be completed through UTSA.
Special Programs
Our college sponsors unique programs which offer students the opportunity
to add a dimension to their teacher preparation through research and inquiry
in a selected area. Other programs provide teacher training for use of technology
in education.
ESL
Services
Provides quality ESL instruction for non-native English speakers who are enrolled
in or are interested in pursuing degrees at UTSA. |
